PKR polls a platform to strengthen party - Ramanan
The upcoming PKR central leadership election, scheduled for this Friday, should serve as a platform to strengthen and empower the party in preparation for future state and general elections.
PKR deputy information chief I R Ramanan said the election process was not merely about securing positions but about the party’s direction, which must continue to ensure that the voice of the people remains at the heart of its struggle.

PKR deputy information chief I R Ramanan said the election process was not merely about securing positions but about the party’s direction, which must continue to ensure that the voice of the people remains at the heart of its struggle.
“This election is not only an arena to select new leadership, but also reflects the maturity of democracy within the party that has upheld the principles of justice and reform since its inception. This election is a manifestation of grassroots strength and a spirit of unity among party members.
“Our party is our family. As a multi-racial and multi-religious party, PKR has faced and overcome various challenges and obstacles from within and outside the party. Therefore, this election is not something new to us,” he said in a statement today.
Ramanan, who is contesting for the vice-president post in this election, said PKR was a reformist party that always celebrated differences of opinion, and the most important thing was for all members to remain united under the leadership of its president, Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the prime minister, in building Malaysia Madani.
The Sungai Buloh MP, who is also deputy entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, also expressed confidence that unity and loyalty to the ideals of reform would continue to solidify PKR’s position as a leading force in the national political landscape.
“Together with the president, we must move forward as one team. There is only one team in PKR - our differences are our strength, and internal democracy is a testament to the party’s maturity.
“This year’s PKR election is seen as a crucial moment to determine a leadership line-up capable of meeting future challenges, especially in strengthening public confidence in the Unity Government,” he said.
The PKR national congress will begin with the simultaneous opening of the Youth and Women’s congresses by PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh tomorrow night.
This will be followed by the Youth and Women’s congresses and the central leadership election on Friday morning, followed by the president's policy speech, which will officially open the PKR national congress in the evening.
The congress will continue on Saturday with debate and winding-up sessions by party leaders, as well as the announcement of the results for the 2025-2028 central leadership election.
