Former Dewan Negara deputy president Ali Mohamad has come forward to file a police report urging authorities to investigate viral audio recordings that implicated him in a political conspiracy.
The former deputy chairperson of Malacca Umno also publicly revealed that one of the voices in the audio clips belongs to Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.
“I would like to emphasise that I dare to openly say that the voice that went viral is Rauf’s.
“This is my challenge, if you (Rauf) consider this as slander... I challenge you to file a police report for the police to investigate who organised the evil conspiracy, who bribed those who were ordered to do these jobs,” Ali (above, centre) said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Earlier, the Malacca Bersatu deputy information chief filed a report at the Dang Wangi police station over the audio.
Previously, several of the audio clips were circulated on social media, containing a conversation between two individuals, one of whom was referred to as the “boss”.
In the first clip, the “boss” and an unknown individual are heard discussing a “report” that will be made at the “balai” (police station).
The second clip contains a discussion between the "boss" and another person regarding the status of the “report” that has already been made, as well as the promise of a reward from the "boss" after the task assigned has been completed.
The conversation in the third recording mentioned an individual named Ali, who is in Dang Wangi - former Malacca Bersatu chief Yadzil Yaakub believed it was referring to the party leader.
On April 15, Ali was remanded by the MACC under Section 16 of the MACC Act over allegations of corruption.
Rauf later denied his involvement and called speculation linking him to the case baseless.
Yesterday, the Malacca Umno chairperson insisted that he knew the mastermind behind the distribution of the audios, saying it was a political game to undermine his character.
Rauf said that he was not impressed by such games, hence there was no need to take action such as filing a police report.
Forensic analysis
Ali said he had sent the recordings to several international forensic companies for analysis.
“I also conducted forensics of this audio in London, Thailand, and Indonesia.
“So, I took a forensic initiative at the international level, and all three of these companies are recognised by the forensic world. I want to see the comparison later,” he said.
He also urged the police to investigate the matter, expressing his confidence in the authorities to provide due justice.
“I accept the challenge to come forward to file a police report because I am confident that the police will investigate and eventually find the mastermind that Rauf mentioned.
“... But what is important to me is that he said this is a game, a story.
“To end the story, brother Rauf must file a police report to state that the audio or voice that is going viral is not your voice,” Ali said.
