Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin today cancelled at the last minute his plan to lodge a police report on an alleged rape and intimidation case involving the son of a cabinet member.
Speaking to reporters outside a police station in Kuala Lumpur, the Port Dickson Bersatu division chief, also known as Chegubard, said the decision was made after learning that the purported victim had withdrawn her police report.
“I was provided with several pieces of evidence and a copy of the police report. However, according to information we received yesterday, the victim has since withdrawn her police report.
“I am still checking this and seeking to meet the investigating officer to establish the truth. Because, even when we are facing our political adversaries, we still have to be fair.
“Today, the same thing (victim’s police report) went viral via the Edisi Siasat (Telegram channel) and several other social media platforms.
“I respect the intention of others to spread (the issue), but on our side, we are still trying to get some confirmation before we lodge our police report,” Badrul (above, centre) said when met outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
Also present was Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
Earlier, Badrul and 13 others were at the police station to give his statement regarding a memorandum that they submitted to the Tambun MP office in Ipoh last July.
This morning, Malaysiakini learned that the content of a purported police report regarding the alleged incident was published on Edisi Siasat Telegram channel.
Among others, the purported report mentioned a pregnant woman being threatened by her boyfriend.
Serious allegation
Badrul claimed that he was among the first to know about the case.
“I was among the first to know about this case, that the police report was lodged in Penang but this had since been withdrawn by the victim.
“Regardless of how much we hate the minister, we still have to be fair and investigate this matter thoroughly because it is a very serious allegation.
“We learned that the police report was withdrawn about 24 hours after it was lodged earlier this month,” he said.
In a separate matter, Chegubard said he has also lodged a police report against cabinet members for allegedly defying the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s addendum order regarding former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s case.
