PAS will continue to pursue cooperation with Umno in the forthcoming 15th general election under their Muafakat Nasional (MN) political pact, said Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
The PAS vice-president said his party would not give up on MN, regardless of whatever criticism Umno had thrown at the Islamist party recently.
According to Samsuri (above), who is also the Terengganu menteri besar, PAS is still negotiating with Umno and whatever happened between them following PAS' objection against having early elections does not reflect the situation in MN.
"That was their statement about GE15. But on the issue of negotiation, we are still making efforts to discuss through MN, despite all the insults and mocking statements they made against us. We will not give up.
"We will continue to work on this, and if we can't agree on everything, we will not simply reject everything. If there are 10 issues and we can solve one, we will work towards solving that one," Samsuri told reporters in Terengganu.
'We won't bury MN'
Commenting on MN's future in Terengganu, Samsuri said PAS maintains its position that the pact will be continued.
"We adopt the same stand that we won't bury MN. If the other party wants to put an end to MN, then it is their problem, not ours."
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently denied that his party had closed its doors for discussion with PAS.
Zahid said it was not Umno that initiated the negotiations and thus there is no issue of whether Umno started or ended it.
According to him, Umno also holds to the party's decision during its annual general assembly to not continue with MN.
