Is DBKL racist?

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) reportedly launched another crackdown on "illegal signage" last week.

While details are scarce, responses by politicians indicate that Chinese businesses that were viewed as not complying with city hall's Malay-language requirements for signs were among those affected.

This comes one month after DBKL launched a similar operation that seemingly only targeted Chinese businesses.

However, DBKL advisory board member Andre Lai said the latest operation targeted all illegal signage, not just those with the Chinese language.

Who is PN's PM candidate?

Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu's affirmation that Muhyiddin Yassin is Perikatan Nasional's prime minister candidate unexpectedly ruffled some feathers.

PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin opined that the prime minister candidate should instead come from PAS - citing the party's higher seat count and stronger grassroots.

Gerakan objected to this, saying that going by PAS' logic, the current prime minister should be from DAP.

Who paid for Nurul Izzah's flight?

Questions have been raised on whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's daughter - Nurul Izzah - had her travel expenses billed to the government when she accompanied the premier to Egypt, Peru, and Brazil.

Nurul Izzah said she had gone on the trip representing the Social and Economic Research Initiative (Seri).

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil further clarified that she was invited to the events in her official capacity after the prime minister’s wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, was unable to attend.

While he did not explain who exactly paid for Nurul Izzah's travel expenses, Fahmi did say that the government had saved RM900,000 by splitting the cost of chartering a special flight for Anwar's multi-country trip with the private sector.
