I have studied very carefully DAP deputy chairperson Karpal Singh's statement on the advantages of Keadilan and PRM breaking ties with PAS and joining the so-called secular alliance. However, I disagree with him.

On the contrary, I propose that DAP be disbanded so that its leaders, members and supporters all join Keadilan/PRM to strengthen the secular opposition force under one roof to constructively engage with PAS. Both Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh should be welcome as experienced advisers to Keadilan/PRM and BA provided they pledge not to make public statements without prior consultation without other BA leaders.

There is no future for DAP fighting alone as a permanent opposition in limited Chinese-dominant constituencies. Politics in Malaysia has become so multi-ethnic that only a mass-based, multi-ethnic party like Keadilan/PRM has a true future with true strength on the ground, not larger-than-life images in the Barisan Nasional-controlled newspapers.

In DAP, most of the Chinese-dominant constituencies (which only number about 20) will certainly be allocated to top leaders like Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Kerk Kim Hock and their favourites.

Others who are not close to the top leaders will have to contest in ethnically mixed constituencies where BA has tremendous support among the Malays/Muslims.

In such mixed constituencies, DAP does not have a strong following among the Chinese. So, Chinese and Indian candidates of BA have a great chance of winning the seats with massive Malay/Muslim support. Why then stay idly and squabble endlessly in DAP where there are no chances for non-cronies?

The fact that many Chinese and Indian leaders were elected into top positions in Keadilan recently shows as long as one works hard, there is no distinction or discrimination based on race and religion.

Thus, it is more realistic for DAP leaders, members and supporters to leave the party and join Keadilan/PRM, than for the latter to leave BA and join an empty made-in-London alliance without mass base or concrete details.
