The suspension and humiliation of DAP MP Fong Po Kuan by the BN-dominated parliament should, in my opinion, serve as a good lesson to DAP and its supporters on who are its true friends, and enemies.

DAP and its supporters must make up their minds once and for all which side to take, or they will face marginalisation in the great sea change in Malaysian politics.

DAP has obviously made a wrong decision by withdrawing from BA by citing the issue of PAS' 'Islamic fundamentalist threat'. There is no such threat as PAS can never win enough seats in parliament to amend the constitution.

Within the confines of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, as well as the nature of our constituency delineation, PAS could be a democratising force because it is only PAS that is capable of putting enough pressure on Umno in the heartland so that Umno cannot spread its resources to other constituencies.

More importantly, leaders and supporters of PAS, like those of DAP, Keadilan and PRM are victims of oppression and persecution. They should empathise and support each other.

The best way to deal with the anti-democratic threat from Umno-dominated BN government is to form a balancing alliance of the weak and oppressed against the strong and arrogant.

However, out of vanity, utter lack of intellectual self-confidence and political conviction, DAP has listened to wrong 'advice' offered by Umno's propagandists and their Chinese and Indian operatives.

DAP has also succumbed to the pressure mounted by a vocal minority of socially and politically irresponsible urban yuppies who have no real experience in real politics.

DAP must ask itself honestly: who are its friends who are helping and displaying open solidarity to Fong Po Kuan (and for that matter, also Lim Guan Eng once) now?

It has always been the honest and upright Malay/Muslim oppositionists and their supporters who come to DAP's defence.

They have always been the ones who defend the legitimate aspirations of Chinese and Indians for their rights to mother tongue education. It was PAS and Keadilan leaders and supporters who defended Suqiu and countered Umno Youth's threat to raze the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall to the ground. To quote a cliche: Friends in need are friends indeed.

The smart secular and de-cultured yuppies only know how to talk when there is no risk and no threat. They only know how to defend their own right to be gay, or to drink, gamble and smoke as if these are the most important aspects of human rights.

DAP must entertain no illusion or self-delusion that after PAS or Keadilan/PRM are weakened or destroyed, it will be rewarded by their votes. They will forever vote for their own fathers, brothers and buddies who have formed a close elitist circle because they are afraid of the awakening and rise of the masses in a democratic movement they no longer can dictate.

After PAS and Keadilan are no more, the next target for destruction would certainly be DAP. By then, no one could help DAP anymore. DAP is only loved now because it could be used as a divide-and-rule instrument vis-a-vis other stronger oppositions.

It is time for DAP to come back to its natural home - the house of the oppressed of all races and upright followers of all religions. It should stop trying to abandon true friends for smart people who only offer 'friendship' when they need DAP to destabilise and destroy PAS and Keadilan/PRM.
