It was an incredible but childish and senseless act from the all too powerful Barisan Nasional government. Who is more insulting to the Parliament and its speaker? MP Fong Po Kuan or is it the one who said the House speaker spoke without knowing the procedure?

Maybe it is even the speaker himself. When an MP complained about the lewd remark made by de facto Law Minister Dr Rais Yatim, the Speaker said he did not hear it.

A self-respecting speaker would have asked Rais if he did indeed utter such words instead of concluding that there was no case simply because he did not hear it.

Don't these episodes show us that the speaker is protecting BN and don't they help put more credibility to MP Fong's claims? Utterly shameful and disgusting is all I can say of these events.

Respect must be earned, not bulldozed.
