Arbibi Ashoy in his letter ('Woman must dress properly to stop harassment', Dec 12) is correct in saying that sexual misconduct and domestic violence stem from money. To be more precise, it is the lack of financial independence and education that entraps victims of harassment and violence.

Women married to and dependent on violent men, are going to have to put up with their spouses' hideous temper. Take Africa, where a lot of women are uneducated. Women there try to balloon up as African men love big breasts and buttocks. All this nonsense just to please men.

Husbands/boyfriends are responsible for paying for their food and rent as they are financially inept. These women have little choice but to tolerate their husband's numerous girlfriends and bad behaviour. Where else can they go? Imagine their emotional pain.

But coming back to a woman having to dress in a sack and shave her head just to avoid sexual harassment - women in baggy clothes, covered from head to toe, have been known to be raped and killed as well.

If a solution to avoiding rape is a woman's dressing, then that hardly solves it all, as the perpetrators of the crime are walking loose.

A man who walks around with an uncontrollable libido is the problem. He will rape any female. He doesn't have to see a gorgeous woman showing skin in order to attack. Hence, don't blame women. This argument on women's dressing is becoming obsolete.

Besides, a woman who covers herself from head to toe is not necessarily of high moral standing while a woman who dresses sexily is not necessarily decadent. Therefore, a person's dressing is not an accurate denominator of her moral standing.

Want to stop sexual harassment and rape? Educate men. And educate women on being physically stronger.

Engage in more sports and stop playing with dolls all the time.You need not be Xena the Warrior Princess but you don't have to be a 'namby-pamby' girl dying to be a size six either. That's unhealthy.
