UTM students show-cause letters uncalled for
I would ask the university's administration whether relating grievances and allegations to the media is such a serious offence as to warrant a show-cause letter? Is this how our local universities teach political struggle and freedom of expression in their courses?
If our Merdeka forefathers had towed the line, we would still be under the British rule. Universities are where ideals are taught. Students express themselves from their hearts and should not be discouraged with show-cause letters.
If today's Malaysians allow universities to punish students for just relating their grievances to the media because these grievances embarrassed the universities or brought disrepute to them, then tomorrow, our government may make it an offence for any of us to complain against it or any of its departments.
