I empathise with Jeffrey's sentiments regarding the CLP, but not with his conclusion (Corrupt, prejudiced systems breed fiascos like CLP, Nov 29).

Malaysians of Chinese or Indian origin have never had officially sanctioned additional support, compared with other citizens, in terms of public funds, access to tertiary education and many other areas. They have, by and large, learnt to be self-reliant.

Malaysians will, of course, also be affected by globalisation. But some will be better prepared, and I believe, will succeed. Out of four Malaysians named billionaires by Forbes magazine, three were Chinese and one Indian.

However, we should not be unduly worried that income distribution among the races will become an issue in future. I am equally confident that the present system of race-based politics and government in Malaysia, will be able to find ways to perpetuate itself. The brilliant and highly educated brains that fill the upper echelons of the establishment will explore, plan and imaginatively implement, the wise use of the dynamics of racial differentiation that permeates every sphere in Malaysia, and so continue the miracle that is Modern Malaysia.

Let places like the United States continue to be guided by the likes of Thomas Jefferson, by melting-pot theories and dual-party non-racial politics. Our government, now and in future, knows and understands Malaysians; they've always known what's best.
