Allow me to respond to Lynn Tiew's letter, 'Holier than thou' (Dec 3). What is so wrong for anyone trying to share their social experiences as adults so as to make our society healthier and more positive for children and youths?

In mosques, churches, Buddhist and Sikh temples as well as secular classrooms, clergies of all religions and teachers teach good values every day or every week. They may be moralising, but only for the good of society.

Can we adults openly tell our children: "Don't worry, decide for yourselves if you want to smoke, gamble or consume liquor or notm, because your dad or mom is not Taliban"?

Surely, that is nonsense. Adults, parents, teachers and clergies are responsible for teaching children and youths what is good and bad, right and wrong. It is not a question of 'holier than thou' (what is wrong with striving to be good, perfect or holy?), but a social and parental responsibility in all human societies, including the United States and Europe.

Don't tell me parents and teachers in the United States encourage their children and students to smoke, drink and gamble! Don't tell me there are no regulations at all in the United States restricting sale of alcohol, tobacco products and gambling. Don't tell me free sex is allowed regardless of age.

Sometimes, I just wonder what would become of the human society if the utopia of people like Lynn Tiew and No-To-Islamic-State are realised on earth. A zoo? A jungle? Or a red light district in Manila or Bangkok?
