Strong show of support for embattled rep

Over 400 people last night gathered at two separate functions to show their support for Selangor executive councilor Elizabeth Wong in the hope that she will change her mind about resigning from her state cabinet post and state assembly seat following her nude photographs controversy.
Over 400 people last night gathered at two separate functions to show their support for Selangor executive councilor Elizabeth Wong in the hope that she will change her mind about resigning from her state cabinet post and state assembly seat following her nude photographs controversy.
The first gathering was held in the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) and was organised by the Kuan Cheng Old Pupils' Association. Over 100 people attended the gathering, each holding a sunflower as a sign of Wong's bravery and courage.
At a joint press conference with representatives from 38 associations, Kuan Cheng Old Pupils' Association president Zheng Shu Juan urged the Selangor PKR leadership to reject Wong's resignation and not allow her to be the victim of gutter politics.
"We want someone capable to represent us. As long as she has not committed a crime, she should not tender in her resignation," Zheng said.
The Coalition for Good Governance also yesterday threw their support behind Wong, saying they will continue working with her and urged the Selangor government to not only reject her resignation but take action against the person who took the pictures.

The second gathering, organised by PKR's Selayang branch and several residents' associations, took place at the Bukit Lanjan Desa Jaya People's Hall. Around 300 people gathered to express sadness over Wong's decision to quit all her posts.
Friends of Kota Damansara representative, Mah Weng Kwai lauded Wong's active involvement in solving the problems of Damansara folk after she was elected.
"We have worked closely with her after last year's general elections and have come to realise that she is an honest, hardworking and smart person."
He added that as Wong has not committed any crime, she should remain as a Selangor assemblyperson.
