I seldom support PAS but I think I have to agree, for once, what PAS MP Mahfuz Omar has advocated: EPF and the government should withdraw all investments in companies that produce morally hazardous products and services, like tobacco, alcohol and gambling. It is not a question of this or that religion but of common social moral order.

Is it not ironic and even hypocritical that while government leaders and school teachers are teaching children and youths not to indulge in smoking, alcoholism, gambling and other undesirable lifestyles, EPF is investing in their production and circulation in Malaysia?

If we look at modern Chinese history, the unrestricted sale of opium by the British East India Company in the late 19th century had ruined a great civilisation and political system to the extent that it could raise no strong armies to defend itself against Western imperialism. Malaysians must not let history to be repeated here.

The problem with No-To-Islamic-State ("Let's not adopt a 'Talibanistic' lifestyle", Nov 29) is that he/she is being hysterical and paranoid in his/her secular crusade.

There are some things which every decent and socially responsible human beings can agree upon, irrespective of religions and other beliefs. All human beings, for example, would like to protect their children from unhealthy activities such as smoking, alcoholism and gambling. I myself forbid my children from watching those vice-stimulating Hongkong Cantonese movies because children emulate and imitate others easily.

Please, if what secularism is what No-To-Islamic State defines in his/her letter, then give me an Islamic state simply because I want my children to grow up without acquiring bad habits like gambling, smoking and alcoholism.
