Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua and three others have been arrested by the police for taking part in a follow-up demonstration along Jalan Raja Laut. One of them was hurt in the commotion during the arrest.

Chua led a smaller group of several hundred reformasi supporters towards Sogo shopping complex at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Earlier the group formed part of about 3,000 demonstrators who had marched from the Dang Wangi police station to Dataran Merdeka.

They had gathered to show their support to the Barisan Alternatif leaders who earlier lodged a police report on alleged abuse of powers by the former attorney-general Mohtar Abdullah, who is now a Federal Court judge.

The larger crowd had dispersed at Dataran Merdaka, leaving this smaller group to march back to their starting point.

Over the past two years, Chua has been slapped with eight separate charges for illegal demonstrations and rioting.

Also arrested earlier was reformasi activist Hishammuddin Rais, who is also a columnist for malaysiakini.
