The Certificate of Legal Practice scandal and the imminent departure of Attorney-General Ainum Mohd Saaid shows clearly that the existing system of governance under Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Barisan Nasional is morally bankrupt. What is more important is that the so-called 'reformers' within the system and Umno, like Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Musa Hitam and Rais Yatim, are just wasting their time and lives, or fooling the credulous and malleable.

The existing Umno-dominated system is one based on the law of jungle in all fields. There is no moral limit in the way one gets power, wealth, prestige and influence. The ends of maintaining the so-called Ketuanan Melayu or Malay Supremacy (which is in fact, Ketuanan Umnoputra) regime justifies all means which include force and fraud. In the process, all get corrupted and band together as partnership of guilt to protect each other from being exposed.

The fundamental problem is not this or that issue, but the whole system of cronyism, corruption and nepotism. If top dogs can use force and fraud without shame openly, as in the persecution of Anwar Ibrahim, all those who hold power and influence in the police force, mainstream media, civil service, ruling parties, judiciary, etc., could also 'justifiably' emulate their chiefs. The whole Malaysian society and its moral fabric have been destroyed by Umno, its ideology and its most acclaimed cult leader.

Mark my words, scandals of similar natures would occur and occur again within the rotten system saved in the last elections only by the fear and insecurity of some credulous and fearful Malaysians.
