The death of student politics
So who cares, you may ask? Students and the young are the future of this country, and for us to lose our innocent and ideal at such an early age could only spell disaster for the future political landscape of Malaysia.
We need students who are well rounded; we need them to ask questions. They need to ask the right questions. They need to ask these questions without fear of reprisal. We should not punish for their ideals. We should not punish young ones just because they care. What kind of signals will we be putting out if we do that?
However ideals are increasingly not the issue in local campus elections. At such a young age, some students are already jockeying for power, in hopes of getting into the right books with some 'big-shots'. What does this say about our future?
