Different interpretations - a tool to fool people
The root of almost every modern war has been spurred on by this holier-than-thou attitude. The people who start these wars have always been motivated by other factors like power, money and cronyism. Their followers who get nothing for giving up their lives need other motivating factors like religion and nationalistic pride.
The different interpretations are, therefore, just a tool used to work on the sentiments and emotions of people. Islam in this respect has become a very incendiary element among Muslims. The fact that some Muslims are quick to admonish a non-Muslim's analysis of "his sacred religion" is an example of this. Of course, the study of Islam with a pure heart will open people's eyes to its beauty.
I think what CHNG meant in his letter, 'Followers interpret religions differently' (Nov 26), was that there are lots of Muslims who have stopped approaching Islam with holy intent. If such conclusions are being drawn up by Muslims and non-Muslims - shutting them up is not the answer. Self-analysis and realisation are the only way.
