I refer to a letter by BG, 'Nationalistic Islam as preached by Umno is worse' (Nov 21). I fail to understand his reasoning in defending PAS on that matter. He ignored the fact that Sabah Umno is open to Chinese, too. Also disregarded is the PAS constitution which only grants membership to Muslims. As for PAS espousing a universalist Islam - what is universalist Islam?

If you talk about having one language and one culture, certainly non-Malays in Kelantan are better in assimilating the Kelantanese Malay culture. As a Malay, of course, I would be pleased if PAS came to power and turn Malaysia into another Kelantan or Terengganu.
