I would like to refer to the letter 'Emphasise spiritual and moral aspects of religion' (Nov 15) by See All and the letter 'Where's the tolerance?' (Nov 17) by CH Loh.

These letters, and many others of similar sort appearing in malaysiakini lately are quite disturbing to the majority of us Muslims. To a certain extent, it is quite insulting to read non-Muslims preaching their perception of Islamic tenets which in most cases are wrong.

Things like partaking of halal food are obviously an internal issue guided by our Quran and Hadith, not merely to be interpreted by a certain gentleman from the Middle East. It does not cause any harm to non-Muslims and it does not cause any Muslim to starve to death. Hence it is not your business to question the flexibility of our dietary rules and regulations.

Islam is not a religion as most non-Muslims may understand. Islam is an ad-deen (the way of life). It is not simply about theocratic rituals and prayers. Our Quran and Hadith teach us everything - from performing toilet functions to administering a nation.

Please do not learn Islam from interpretation of some self-proclaimed experts including those who often write in malaysiakini. Learn Islam directly from the Quran and Hadith, then you'll see the beauty of it.
