Every year, Malaysiakini comes out with the Top 10 news stories and personalities. Well, I would like to suggest another category: ‘Top 10 Funny Statements’. I would like to refer to the article, ‘Cool it everyone, says Kayveas’.

Well, it seems Syed Hamid is not the only one with problems with his tongue. Mr Supra Maniam s/o Kolanda Velu seems to have the same problem. I was shocked to read his statement ordering everyone, including his party representative Senator T Murugiah, to stop commenting on the Kugan issue.

His reason? So that things "don’t blow up".

I wonder if he has yet to wake up from his shocking defeat in the last general election. Well, Mr Kayveas, for your kind information, this issue is already blown up and is being highlighted to the whole world.

So how on earth would you want these leaders to keep their mouths shut? It would have made more sense if you had asked the Home Minister to watch his words and ordered the authorities to speed up their investigations.

Actually, the person who has to be saluted for his stand on the matter is, surprisingly, Samy Vellu. He proved his leadership skills when he defended the deputy ministers involved, including Murugiah who is from PPP.

Kayveas was right in saying no one is above the law. That also applies to the police force. If the police had acted in a professional way in the interrogation, this incident would not have occurred and caused further damage to BN.

Mr Kayveas, you should realise and admit that your men (Murugiah, in particular) have indeed performed much better than you. I’m not sure how long your tenure as a deputy minister was, but I am sure it was more than 10 years.

All this while you have failed to perform and develop PPP. You did not provide the rakyat with good service. I will go as far as saying that you brought PPP’s downfall as it was during your time that the party lost all the seats allocated to it.

If the rakyat were to compare you and Murugiah, I am sure you will earn far less points. Instead of slamming him, you should have congratulated him for his efforts in placating the victim’s family that fateful night. Be proud that he is doing his job well and uplifting not only PPP but Barisan Nasional.

I was at a agricultural seminar last week in Sentul organised by the Prime Minister’s Department, hosted by Murugiah. We were told that around one thousand participants would turn up.

However, more than two thousand showed up in tremendous support for Murugiah. That was the first time I saw this deputy minister and I was touched by his spirit to work for the rakyat. I personally feel you shoul give him support for all he is doing.

As for the Kugan case, come on Mr Kayveas, be a leader and stand with the community. Face the facts. You know that even the Home Minster is not taking this issue seriously. You want to worsen the situation by joining in his disdain for the community?

Come on, its time to stand up and be heard. Samy Vellu has shown his, you must do the same. Stand behind both the deputy ministers and salute them for what they did and what they are doing instead of asking them to cool off.
