I, too, am a doctor and I am baffled at the justification another doctor has found in forcing me to write my race on practically every form (including stupid contest forms) in this country ('Where race matters', Nov 8). Of course medical statistics vary according to individuals of different races. But that still doesn't justify asking my race for ordinary things like applying for a driver's licence. Is my ability to drive in any way affected by my race? Any statistics for that?

In a report in the papers recently, one of the members of Parliament suggested that rural bumiputras be given free treatment because they are poor.

In a country that is supposed to have a health care system that is accessible, affordable to all, we have an elected representative who can be so arrogant to ask such a request on behalf of a race, that he is not punished, let alone reprimanded.

A poor person is a poor person, be he Chinese, Indian or Malay. And what about the urban poor?
