As a general rule, I do not like to waste time arguing over conjectures, much less over nonsense. But, there is a lot of misinformation flying about lately, which seem to originate from TFP's grossly uninformed, 'Posers for fellow Muslims worldwide' (Nov 8). I am wondering why some, glaring and not-so-glaring, mistakes have been readily accepted for discussion.

For instance, TFP asks, "If the US is such a strong ally of Israel, why does it support UN Resolution 181 which calls for the creation of a Palestinian state and stopped Britain and France from invading Egypt (Suez crisis 1956)".

Firstly, let's drop the conjunction 'if' because it is a fact that the US is indeed the strongest ally of Israel.

Secondly, what is the UN General Assembly Resolution 181? Is it really - as the writer puts it - a call for the creation of a Palestinian state? Or, is it - more aptly - a call for the creation of a Jewish state?

Technically speaking, Resolution 181 is the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. This resolution, among others, includes recommendations that Jaffa be part of the Palestinian Arab state and that Jerusalem and Bethlehem be a corpus separatum administered by a trusteeship council acting on behalf of the UN. Although it has been repeatedly violated by Israel but that is another topic altogether.

Anyhow, at the UN's 128th plenary session on Nov 29, 1947, the Palestine partition plan received 33 votes in favour from member nations which included the US, but none of them were Muslim countries.

Interestingly enough, the 13 votes against, came from countries like Afghanistan, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and Yemen. Equally peculiar is to find the United Kingdom among the 10 abstentions.

So, the American approval of UN Resolution 181 should not be seen as support for a Palestinian state but rather, a support for a Jewish state. This is further evinced by the birth of a new nation, Israel, on May 14, 1948, which the US recognised very soon after.

On the other hand, the All-Palestine government announced Palestine independence on Oct 1 1948, but recognition from the Americans was not forthcoming. So, who does the US actually support?

Thirdly, on Oct 29, 1956, Israel in collusion with Britain and France, invaded the Sinai Peninsula. And, on Nov 2 occupied Gaza and most of Sinai. It was only on March 8 the following year, that Israel withdrew as the UN emergency force moved in.

It does make me wonder what is the author on about when he openly stated that the "US stopped Britain and France from invading Egypt" in 1956?

As much as I would like to go on but that would be too lengthy. Anyhow, I'd like to pose a question: would that be "Kosovan Albanian Muslims" or "Kosovar Albanian Muslims?"

Finally, I'd thoroughly recommend TFP to do some research on Osama bin Laden and his links with the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Also the connection of the bombings of the US embassies in 1998 with US involvement in Kosovo in 1999.
