Two people were killed and one person is trapped in a landslide which occurred last night at a timber camp near Medamit in Limbang, Sarawak.

Seven people were also injured in the incident, details of which were not available immediately, according to Sarawak Disaster Relief and Management Committee chairperson Dr George Chan today.

According to Bernama, the bodies of the two dead people had been recovered and that one person was trapped under tonnes of earth.

All of them, including the injured, had yet to be identified, he said.

Third in a week

Dr Chan said he would fly to Limbang, about 200km north from Miri, later today to get the details.

The landslide is the third in just over a week in Sarawak.

On Jan 16, a landslide on a side of Canada Hill in Miri killed two workers of a filling station located at the foothill.

Last Wednesday, a landslide in Bintulu severed a section of the Pan-Borneo trunk road at Km45 of the Bintulu-Tatau Road, causing hundreds of vehicles travelling to the northern or southern parts of Sarawak to be stranded for hours.
