The risk of bankruptcy under the Barisan Nasional government has escalated lately. The RM1 billion ringgit losses of Tenaga Nasional is only the tip of an iceberg, bearing in mind that they had just increased their tariffs not so long ago.

The net value of Khazanah Nasional has dropped by a massive 20 percent. There will be more government-linked companies facing a similar fate. These companies are definitely mismanaged by their current management teams. They ought to be sacked and replaced.

Proton will be most likely the first candidate to fail. It is fascinating to see a national car remain so 'national' after 25 years in operation. Its overseas ventures seem to be completely disastrous. Its fate is likely to be similar to that of the ‘Big Three’ in the US.

Maybank has paid such a hefty premium for its stakes in Indonesian and Pakistan banks. The seller, the Singapore government, is laughing all the way to the bank. The loss in premium paid and loss in value due to currency depreciation will have a great impact on its balance sheet.

It is still doubtful if Telekom Malaysia can pay their dividends as promised. The plan to raise RM2 billion ringgit for TM at this juncture will be extremely difficult.
