Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak expressed great satisfaction last night of the peaceful campaign in the Kuala Terengganu by-election.

The campaign was very calm, different from our experience in the past especially in Terengganu, he told Bernama in an interview after joining some 200 people at a prayer session for the safety of Palestinians in Gaza. The prayer session was held at the Masjid Raja in Bukit Besar.

Najib also mentioned that the people’s response to the BN candidate, Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, was satisfactory judging from the feedback received.

'Farid must work hard'

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was confident of a BN victory.

"I know Wan Ahmad Farid. He was my political secretary and was later appointed a deputy minister as I was convinced he has the capacity to work, and work well," said the PM.

However, in the Bernama report, Pak Lah was also quoted as saying that Wan Ahmad Farid must continue to work hard for the people.

The by- election is a three-way contest between BN’s Wan Farid Ahmad, PAS’ Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut, and the Independent candidate Azharudin Mamat, who is also known as Adam.

It is held following the death of Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismail on Nov 28.
