A teenager who went missing after allegedly being tortured by the police at Brickfields police station has not been seen for the last 16 days now, according to lawyer N Surendran.

However, a missing person report on C Solomon, 17, a carpark attendant, has yet to be lodged.

Solomon was picked up by police and taken to the Brickfields district police headquarters on Dec 23 to assist in the investigation of an extortion case. His friend and colleague B Prabakar, 27, was taken in at the same time from their place of work in Sri Hartamas.

When they failed to provide the police any information, they were allegedly tortured in various ways by 11 police officers, including having hot water poured on their bodies.

Prabakar, whom Surendran represents, was released from remand on police bail on Dec 28 - the last day he saw Solomon.

On Jan 8, Prabakar and Surendran had gone to the Shah Alam police contingent headquarters to identify the police officers said to be involved in the torture. While there, they took the opportunity to inquire about Solomon's whereabouts.

Surendran claimed they were shown pictures of Solomon with severe scald marks all over his abdomen.

“The police said they had recorded a statement from him, but I wasn’t told the details,” said the lawyer.

Brickfields OCPD Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, when contacted this afternoon, referred Malaysiakini to police headquarters saying the matter is being handled by Bukit Aman’s CID division.

However, CID director Bakri Zinin could not be reached for comment, as he is said to be out of town for a week.

‘Extreme trauma’

Star reported on Jan 11 that inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has directed a task force to look into Prabakar's alleged ordeal.

The slow pace of the investigation has irked both Surendran and B Kumar, Prabakar's 28-year-old brother.

“Why can't swift action be taken against them? It seems as if the authorities would not have acted if we had not pushed for it.”

He also said the policemen involved should be charged with attempted murder, because they had ordered Prabakar (left) to stand on a chair at one point, with a noose around his neck, and had threatened to knock away the chair.

"If the Hindraf 5 could be charged for attempted murder after their supporters (allegedly) threw bricks at a policeman, then there is no reason why the policemen in this case cannot be charged for the same offence.”

Prabakar is said to be experiencing severe trauma as a result of his ordeal.

"He used to be a happy person. Now he's afraid of venturing outside the house and keeps to himself all the time. He has been staying at home ever since he returned. We are extremely worried about his future,” said Kumar.

This also means that his family - comprising his mother and six brothers - has lost one source of financial support, he added.
