Probe sought on RM80mil losses in T'ganu

State PKR Youth chief Mohd Fariz Abd Talib @ Musa named timber company Golden Pharos Sdn Bhd, printing company Syarikat Percetakan Yayasan Islam Terengganu Sdn Bhd and batik printing company Permint Suterasemai Sdn Bhd in his report.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said had revealed in the state legislature on Dec 16 last year, that the companies suffered losses of RM80 million between 2005 and 2008. He was replying PAS president and Ru Rendang assemblyperson Abdul Hadi Awang.
Fariz said the ACA should also investigate “the board of directors, the management and administration of the companies and act if there is evidence of abuse of power, and mishandling or mismanagement”.
A copy of a report from the Siasah weekly, which had quoted Ahmad on the losses, was submitted together with Fariz’s report, lodged in Terengganu last Sunday.
“I am sure Ahmad will be able to assist investigations as he may have the evidence as to how the huge losses were sustained,” he said in his report.
Fariz, said he also wants the investigations to be extended to Ahmad’s role and investment decisions by the state government, as “this is a serious matter that involves public funds that could have been used to help the poor”.
“This did not happen during PAS rule between 1999 and 200, but during Barisan Nasional rule," he told Malaysiakini.
Ahmad has said the state government will try to transform the companies which still have potential to register a profit. Those that cannot be revived will be closed.
Among measures to be taken to save the companies is the appointment of a new management team to boost productivity and moot innovative ideas.
