I refer to the Malaysiakini report Mahathir: Boycott US products and their currency.

I feel that Muslim leaders like Dr Mahathir Mohamad are actually part of the problem and not the solution. Obviously, Mahathir wants to lay the blame for Israel's brutality solely at the door of the Americans to avoid any criticism of Muslim leaders (including that of Malaysia).

No matter how much we condemn Israel for what is happening in Gaza, we cannot run away from the fact that Israel cannot do what it is doing in Gaza now without the collusion and collaboration of Egypt.

Egypt, by closing the Rafah crossing which is the only door which Gaza has to the outside world, has sealed their fate.

As soon as the Israelis initiated the war, the Palestinian people clamoured at the Rafah crossing wanting to escape the onslaught and wishing to save their precious families from possible death.

Instead of helping the Palestinians, the Egyptian government of Hosni Mubarak fired warning shots at the Palestinians and prevented them from crossing over. Clearly Egypt had taken Israel's side and was complicit in their crimes.

This is the problem in the Muslim world - politicians who say one thing in public but do the opposite in private.

Mahathir has yet to explain satisfactorily as to why his administration in November 1990 voted ‘Aye’ to UN Security Council Resolution 678 when Malaysia was a member of the UNSC.

Malaysia's ‘yes’ vote for war gave a blank cheque to the Western world to bomb Baghdad and other Iraqi towns causing extensive deaths, injuries, sufferings and misery to innocent women and children.

This is the true dilemma faced by Muslims the world over, the problem of hypocrisy or known in Islam as munafik. Sadly, the latest news from Gaza indicates more than 700 dead and 5,000 injured and the United Nations continues to drag its feet.

Muslim leaders, including those from the Barisan Nasional, are nothing but charlatans when it comes to religion. They abuse Islam to oppress women and impose their will upon their people by declaring fatwa (edicts) that cannot be challenged or questioned.

Malaysia grows closer to emulating Saudi Arabia which uses Islam as an excuse to mistreat women. Yet it was Saudi Arabia which facilitated the US war in Iraq by providing logistical support such as use of airspace, use of military bases and oil supplies for the US imperial war machine.

Yet, in public, they tell their people what bad people the Israelis and Americans are. The same goes for Malaysia's two-faced Muslim leaders.
