I've been logging on to Umno's website for quite a long time and checking on other parties' websites too. The content of Umno's website seems to be geared towards inciting ultra-Malay consciousness, sometimes to the detriment of non-Malays or non-Muslims.

The frontpage article with the title 'Rasmi PAS: Di sini patung penyu ditendang, di sana patung Buddha dijulang' on Oct 2 clearly indicates their uneasiness and unhappiness with PAS' decision to allow Southeast Asia's biggest sitting Buddha statue in Kelantan, contrasting it against its demolishing of tortoise statues on the roundabouts in Terengganu sometime back.

From what I understand, PAS clearly states that statues are only allowed for the deities of non-Muslims, and not for public decoration since they are prohibited in Islam. I think it is a fair decision, with both non-Muslim and Muslim rights protected.

It appears to me that Umno leaders just want to divide and rule. Despite PAS' tag as an Islamic hardliner, it at least tries to make non-Muslims understand Muslims and vice versa. The dialogues held between PAS leaders and the non-Muslims really show the party's efforts to create better inter-ethnic relations, not only politically, but also culturally and religiously.

If Umno maintains its present style of governing, the so-called Malaysian Malaysia will never become a reality.

Despite its 'fundamentalist' image, PAS has my support. At least it tries to understand others, and speak and act honestly without hidden prejudices against the ethnic Chinese and Indian, unlike Umno.
