The call by PAS Youth chief Mahfuz Omar to carry out jihad and to provide military support to the Taliban regime exposes his insensitivity and the shallow thinking of PAS leadership about the US-led fight against terrorism.

If it were the Petronas Twin Towers that were obliterated with thousands of dead Malaysians and it was caused by non-Muslim terrorists, would he be against military strikes against the perpetrators? His irresponsible statements only serve to reinforce non-Muslims' perception that Muslims are stupid, emotional and violent people who can be whipped into a frenzy each time someone calls for jihad.

A heinous crime has been committed against Americans and they have a right to defend themselves.

It s easy to blame the US for all the world's misery. The Taliban regime is repressive and medieval and a disgrace to Islam. Perhaps Mahfuz would like to recreate the same in Malaysia.

Terrorist training camps in Afghanistan export terror to other countries. Only the US has the means and resolve to lead this war and the world should support it. PAS claims that there is no concrete evidence against Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network but how much proof must the US produce to the world? In any case, PAS will not believe the US as, according to one of its leaders, it is a "terrorist state".

It is horrifying that some Muslims are quick to criticise the west when a Muslim country is attacked. When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, how many Muslim countries or Muslims condemned the aggression and more importantly sent their troops to Kuwait to free them? These Muslims consider Saddam as a great Muslim (actually Arab) leader who has developed a strong military capability which can possibly defeat the Jewish state. The fact that Saddam has killed thousands of Kurdish in the north of Iraq using conventional and chemical warfare does not bother their conscience nor galvanise them into action to save the Kurds. Only the US and UK sent their war planes to enforce a no-war zone and saved many lives. If Malaysia was invaded by a strong neighbouring country, only the US, UK and Australia will come to our aid, but I doubt the Muslim countries or their people will die for us.

I neither worship the US nor hate PAS (in fact I voted for the Barisan Alternatif in the last election) but enough is enough. The irresponsible call by Mahfuz that Malaysia sever economic and diplomatic relations with the US shows his total lack of understanding of the importance of the US to our Malaysian economy. Many Malaysians depend on the US (and their European, Japanese allies) market for their livelihood. Malaysia needs these markets but they do not need us.

I believe that a PAS government will probably carry out what they have been saying against the US and people, and my opinion will not be tolerated. PAS should wake up to reality if it harbours dreams of becoming the next federal government!
