Here we go again! These were the words of my friend when he heard of the bombings in Afghanistan. But like in all 'military' action of the United States in the past, it is the innocent people who suffer.

The American boasted about how they have managed to disrupt electricity supply in Kandahar, Jalallabad and Kabul. But who are going to suffer? The people who live there. They are the ones who are going to be without electricity and forced to live in darkness due to America's arrogance.

And thus, the whole world is in darkness, under the shadow of this super state.

The Americans claim they don't want to hurt civilians and that they are dropping food aid. How nice! But I somehow find dropping bombs and food at the same time a contradiction.

According to the president of Conscience International, a humanitarian aid organisation, the camps inside Afghanistan are in even worse shape. For example, a refugee camp called Herat would need 500 plane loads of food a month to survive. The US says that two aircrafts are being used for food relief so far for all of Afghanistan.

And yet, three weeks ago, the head of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Islamabad said the food would run out in three weeks.

Nevertheless, the US would have us believe it does not want civilian deaths. However, the first casualty of war is the Truth. And yet the US thinks this war is necessary to protect itself from further attacks. We are led to believe that we have to overthrow the Taliban, and the US is the only one who can do it.

And yet, no one seems to learn from history: in Iran 1954, the US overthrew nationalist Mossadegh and installed the Shah and trained the secret police; in Egypt 1955, the US tried to kill Nasser and he turned to the Soviets; in Indonesia 1967, the US overthrew Sukarno and helped Suharto into power and countless were massacred; in Libya 1969, US helped Qadaffi seize power but tried to kill him in 1986; in Iraq 1975, the US helped a young officer by the name of Saddam Hussein seized power; in 1979 they got Saddam to invaded Iran, killing three-quarter million people while the US arms both sides; in Lebanon 1983, the US forces interfered.

When we will we ever learn? But my heart goes out to the innocent Afghans who don't even know how the World Trade Center looks like, let alone want to hurt any Americans. As my Afghan friends put it, "Why does everyone have to fight their wars in Afghanistan?"

Why, indeed?
