I am sickened by the reactionary views voiced by PAS and Keadilan. Even though PAS opposition is expected, that of Keadilan, I find unpalatable and contemptible. Keadilan's secretary-general Mohd Anuar Tahir even seem to have gone on to say that the US attacks on Afghanistan would "scar world peace forever".

I don't know how he came to such a ludicrous conclusion. By now he should have known that the war is not against Afghanistan but against the Taliban regime. This is the declared policy goal of the Bush administration. This has been repeated many times over, hence I see no reason why there should be any confusion.

Afghanistan is now one of the worst governed places on earth. It is also, in my opinion, a scar on the very face of humanity. We may have differing opinion on who to fault: Taliban, Gulbuddin Hikmatyar, Abdul Rashid Dostam, the CIA, Hafizullah Amin, Daoud Khan, Babrak Karmal, Soviet Union, etc.

But, the present attacks on Taliban in war-torn Afghanistan is the best chance Afghans - who have been marinating in humiliation, suffering for over 20 years - to finally rebuild their country.

Nearly all the Afghans I came across are fully in support of US actions against the Taliban regime, as long as there are few - if possible, no - civilian casualties. All believe that only if Taliban is removed from power could Afghanistan be resurrected from the rubble that it is now.

Yes, let's protest; protest if the US failed to facilitate the reconstruction of Afghanistan after the fall of Taliban, if the US were to target or kill civilians, if the US were to attempt to broaden the war into other states under the pretext of war on terror.

We should not, however, protest now, when the tyrannical Taliban regime is under attack. This war is just, and is heaven-sent as far as Afghan people are concerned. Keadilan and PAS should be ashamed of their highly callous stand.
