I totally disagree with Arbibi Ashoy's 'Desert Storm was a catastrophe as well' (Oct 4). His assessment of the Western media is entirely flawed. In fact, I think the Western media has been fair in its reporting.

The Western media never portrayed Muslims as murderers. The extremist Muslims did it to themselves. When the suicide bombers pulled the trigger in Israel, they didn't pull it because of their cause. They pulled it in the name of Allah. When the Jewish army opened fire on the Palestinians, they did not do it for their God. They did it because they were threatened. That's the difference.

It is unfortunate that more than a million Iraqis died during the Desert Storm. However, it wasn't the result of American and British bombings and the subsequent sanctions. We can blame this on Saddam Hussein's regime.

Several years ago, a news programme on one of the TV networks in the US showed how US fighter jets bombed a convoy of Iraqis army on the retreat. Thousands of innocent soldiers died during the attack. If the Western media is unfair to the Iraqis, this programme would not go on air.
