I feel very saddened by DAP's decision to withdraw from the BA coalition. Although I strongly support DAP's 'Malaysia for Malaysians' philosophy, one cannot but accept the need for the Malays to form an Islamic state.

An Islamic state is inevitable. To tell a Muslim that he cannot form an Islamic state is as good as having a finger with no nails. These two cannot be separated. With a nation where 50 percent of the population are Muslims, it is only a matter of time before it happens.

DAP needs to realise that an Islamic state will occur with or without the DAP, and with or without PAS.

Malaysians must not forget that PAS is not just a political party. Their sole objective of forming an Islamic state did not come from thin air and is not a political gimmick. They have the mandate from Malay Malaysians.

That is why they have managed to wrestle a few states from Umno. The notion of an Islamic state is not something that can be compromised or negotiated. The notion of an Islamic state is not one that should frighten non-Muslims.

However, they are frightened and I don't blame them because there is a gross misunderstanding on what an Islamic state really means in a multi-cultural society.

PAS' biggest failure as a political party is its inability to quell the fears of the non-Muslims. They can't even convince their allies, the DAP. How do they expect to convince the non-Muslim laymen? PAS needs to publish blueprints on how exactly they plan on implementing an Islamic state.

Information is power and they should empower the people to decide for themselves if an Islamic state is better than a corrupted, self-proclaimed democratically-elected government.

Non-Muslims are afraid of an Islamic state simply because they don't understand what it really means. We cannot blame them for their fear since there really aren't any good examples of an Islamic state on this planet. That, combined with the bad press that extremist Muslims have been generating, does not help at all.

PAS needs to make more of an effort to explain its concepts and its philosophy to the masses.

If PAS wants to form the next federal government it has to take the time, effort and patience to convince the voters. The DAP should not have left the coalition. PAS is not capable of implementing an Islamic state without good knowledge of how the non-Muslim segment will react.

This is where the DAP can make the most contribution. The devil is always in the details. DAP can ensure that the implementation of an Islamic state will take in to consideration the wants and the needs of the non-Muslim population.

The DAP can fulfil the role that it has always been asked to play, that is to be the moderating force in Malaysian politics.

DAP will never be the federal government and they need to accept this fact. There was never a mandate for the DAP to lead the nation. Chances are, there never will be.

Make the right decision now, DAP. Put away your pride and see the direction our nation is heading. Place your efforts where it is most needed and help build the inevitable Islamic nation.
