I read the article by Azlan Tajuddin, "Terror Attacks: winners and losers," (Sept19) and was pleased to see his point of view somewhat different than most media at large. A few points, however, cannot go unchallenged.

The writer mentioned that "Those belonging to the 'far right' of the political spectrum can also come out as victors in these tragedies. Tighter securities, invasion of civil rights and freedom, and intense surveillance by the state can now be carried out at public expense in the name of national security."

Please let me assure you, the Far Right and its members, which I may include myself as a proud member, wants smaller government, smaller federal intrusion, the return of our freedoms, and no surveillance by the state for our citizens with very few exceptions.

The writer's job position as a university professor of sociology weakens the credibility of his view. His opinion that the welfare class will be hurt by this war demonstrates his bias and misunderstanding of the United States government.

Currently our welfare system takes, by threat of force, (also called stealing) dollars from productive individuals and gives it to unproductive ones. This "something for nothing" attitude is weakening our country's foundation. The US has created a dependency class on every level - individual citizen, city, county, and state government - by the offer of federal dollars. This redistribution of wealth has been the most undermining factor to our personal freedoms.

A truly alarming demonstration of this fact is the law for corporations designated "not for profit" or 501-c-3 Corps. The great majority of US religious organisations from all denominations have incorporated themselves to be 501-c-3 corporations. This designation means that you are un-taxed and contributors who give can claim a deduction. A further examination of this law will reveal that if you want this designation you must agree to the following.

"No substantial part of activities of which is carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation."

In other words, for a few dollars of tax savings, which religious organisations have never been liable for, the federal government has effectively silenced them from speaking out against their policies, like abortion. Does this sound like a violation of our first amendment right?

The writer also mentioned civil rights. Our country's founders never mentioned civil rights, they spoke of inalienable rights endowed to men by the Creator. Civil rights are given by governments and the bigger the government the more civil rights that can be created. That same governmentcan remove those rights. Inalienable rights are birth rights and gifts from God. They can never be taken away by any government, though many try. Inalienable rights can only be given away, or, where there are federal dollars, sold.

The writer's alarm and warning that our rights are at jeopardy should be heeded. We must all be concerned and watchful that this does not happen. However, the Far Right, (the Libertarian Party being the farthest Right party which calls for a massive reduction in government and government spending), is not the enemy of our rights.

Our biggest threat to the loss of our inalienable rights is our own liberal and ever expanding government. This 'Far Righter' also does not distinguish between Democrat and Republican. Both have demonstrated their willingness to expand the government and the cost of our rights. The Republican Party is simply the lesser of two evils. Removing one still leaves 'evil'.
