Condolence delivered in bad taste
The many letters that convey sadness for the recent tragedies in the US also had an underlying sentiment that the US got what it deserved. The fact is, yes, the US has made many mistakes and many people in the country do not agree with the government. But no matter how bad the mistakes are, no one country deserves retaliation in the form of acts of terrorism.
From the many letters published, I sense some Malaysians are mad at the US for its foreign policies. To them, I say remember that a lot of people did not vote for the current president and his band of merry men.
I do not think it is good etiquette to write letters of condolence but in the same sentence, say that the US deserved it after all. People have died and lost families in a most horrific way. The sense of sadness and sorrow in the community is so apparent and heavy that I cannot help but cry every day at the loss of lives.
