So, our 'representatives' are now campaigning to deplore Israel as a repugnant state that espouses racism.

In a land where the creed of the ruling party is that one race must dominate all others, we dare send our representatives to talk about racial equality. In a country where our best brains are denied places in government service and are eventually ousted to neighbouring countries on the basis of colour and creed, we dare brand another country and its policies as racist.

Make no mistake, racism is alive and well in Malaysia. From the forms that we fill where we constantly renounce the concept of Bangsa Malaysia to the quota systems that are constantly abused at the whim and fancy of a few, racism is alive and well.

In this day and time, there are those who finally feel the full brunt of discrimination. I read the letters of those who decry the actions of the university authorities in limiting their freedom of expression. Dear friends and fellow Malaysians, the non-bumiputra minority has had to deal with feelings like these since decades ago.

What has gone wrong? The blame can only be laid at the feet of those who seek to declare themselves nation builders, yet propagate racist tendencies to protect their own selfish interests. Those who would condemn other countries for racism, yet line up and threaten to burn down buildings of minorities for speaking their hearts out, those are the types whose hypocrisy will one day be questioned in front of God.

For those saudara-saudari who now feels what it's like to be signalled out, marginalised and silenced, I pray that you will remember this when you are put into positions of power and influence.

There is nothing we, this present generation, can do now to rectify the prevailing current of racism in this our beloved country. The current regime, however, will go one day, and our responsibility will be to finish the work set out by our forebears and build a true Malaysian nation.
