A desperate Umno points at everyone but itself
My suggestion is that, the UPU forms to be filled in by aspiring undergraduates should be attached with Umno, MCA and MIC membership forms which should be first filled and endorsed by the Barisan Nasional MPs or BN divisional offices. Only upon recommendation by the BN offices, will the UPU forms be processed.
The first-year courses should have Civics 101, Tatanegara 101, Mahathirnomics101, Perjuangan Umno 101 and Rukunnegara 101 conducted by Biro Tata Negara, Intan (National Institute of Public Administration), Ikim (Institute of Islamic Understanding), Isis (Institute of Strategic and International Studies), PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) and BN members.
The second and third-year courses will also be taught by the same people from the same institutions due to the lack of lecturers after the PM executes his threat to sack those who 'incite' students (i.e. more than 80 percent). Which means the students will be studying the same topics from the same lecturers through the years.
They will make peace-loving and law-abiding citizens who worship BN and come every Merdeka day, will compete to make the biggest Jalur Gemilang to flutter from the highest pole, earning a place in Malaysia Book of Records.
It escapes Umno that most of the lecturers who were inclined to BN left the less rewarding academia for the greener pastures of the corporate and political world.
What ails Umno more is its failures to see it's weaknesses. The earlier it acknowledges its mistakes, the faster it can reform and win back the Malay support. To keep on confronting its detractors through brute force would merely hasten its demise.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad can accuse the Malays of being lazy and ungrateful but to use the psychology that he used 20 years ago when he first became PM is a bit outdated. The changing Malay masses will just abandon Umno which is still anchored at the same place for the past 40 years with the same feudalistic and patronising attitude, and hike on another ship that is moving to new frontiers.
No amount of tears, poems and sandiwaras will ever bring them back if Umno is unwilling to pull up anchor and start changing too.
