I refer to the Malaysiakini report Obama chalks up historic win .

The world rejoices in Barack Obama's win in the 2008 US presidential election. He is the 44 th president of the US and more significantly, the first black president for all the Americans.

The Americans have sent a strong message to the world signaling an end to racial politics. For the Americans, what is more important is to have the best person to hold the reins of power irrespective of that person’s race, creed, gender or religion.

This is necessary in order for any country to progress in this challenging global competitive environment. I take my hat off to all Americans for their courage to transcend all the odds to put the best man forward.

Yet when I turn to look at Malaysia, it is indeed sad and shameful to learn that some, especially those of the so-called ‘elite’ in Umno, have yet to come out from their cocoon to face the reality.

Nonetheless, there are a handful of Malays like Zaid Ibrahim and Tunku Abdul Aziz who dare to speak out without fear or favour.

What has prevented the other Umno elite from discarding their masks and coming out to fight for the betterment of the nation? This could only be greed, wealth and the power to control for self- gain.

Hiding behind the disguise of Ketuanan Melayu , they are actually bullies who have resorted to the lowest form of tactics to cast fear among Malaysians at the expense of national unity for their own selfish gains.

However, I am most puzzled why the masses can still be so easily fooled and misled by their lies. My fellow Malaysians, I urge you to look around you and see how many of us in Malaysia are really millionaires and how many of our brethren are still living in poverty despite of all the proclamation of Malay rights? Are the former not the elite in Umno?

I fully endorse Zaid Ibrahim's speech in that the Malays will never be overthrown in Malaysia. Their rights will be preserved and we do not need the greedy politicians from Umno to shout slogans on their behalf but take all for themselves and their families.

The Malays in this country will remain the majority race. But that is not the point. There should be equal rights for the other races so that we can co-exist in this God-given land in peace and unity.

Let’s us compete on a level plane so that we can lift our heads high and have our egos boosted whenever we are outside Malaysia.
