Hordes of reporters were left disappointed this morning when political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda's press conference was called off in the last minute.

This was supposed to be his first press conference following his acquittal by the Shah Alam High Court on Oct 31 of abetment in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.

His daughter Rowena had informed the media on Monday that Abdul Razak would be meeting the media today in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

abdul razak baginda postponed pc event 061108 02 Following this, about 50 journalists from the local and international media started gathering at the hotel since 8am for the press conference which was to start at 9.30am.

However with no action taking place, the journalists made inquiries to the hotel staff who informed them that the press conference has been called off.

However, one hotel staff when asked said someone representing Razak had called the hotel yesterday evening to say that the press conference had been postponed.

“The person did not mention the date it was postponed to, and only said that they had managed to inform some of the media but asked the hotel to inform the rest if they were there.

“The man who called assured that the press conference would be held at this hotel,” the staff who did not want to be named said.

He said the management was also caught by surprise as they did not know the press conference was organised by Abdul Razak.

"Had we knew, we would prepare our security staff to maintain the crowd."

The journalists started leaving at 10.15am when a senior manager of the hotel confirmed that the press conference had been cancelled.

Abdul Razak was found to be at his home in Damansara, but left the house with his family when several reporters arrived there.

The political analyst, who was with his wife, Mazlinda Makhzan, brushed away questions from journalists . They were followed by their daughter, Rowena, and her grandmother.

Apology for cancellation

Rowena however issued a statement later, apologising for the cancellation.

razak baginda acquitted 311008 11 "We apologise profusely for any inconvenience and confusion in this matter. As you can imagine there is much readjustment that my father has to do.

"He is still adjusting to life as a free man, after being in prison for close to two years.

"He thought he could readjust as soon as he was released, but it seems that it will take a little bit more time," she said.

She said that her father was concerned with his health and as such will be staying on in Malaysia for the coming weeks.

Abdul Razak has not been seen publicly after his acquittal from the case. Reporters have only caught glimpses of him entering and leaving his house in Bukit Damansara.

The two remaining accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar were ordered to enter their defence against the charge of murdering Altantuya. Their trial has been set for Nov 10.
