English newspapers

New Straits Times and The Star presented the government’s RM7 billion stimulus package in response to the global financial crisis. It was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak at Dewan Rakyat.

Malay newspapers

Both Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also started with the multi-billion economic stimulus package.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil newspapers ( Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan , and Makkal Osai ) led with the economic stimulus package. They particularly highlighted the RM50 million funds allocated for Tamil schools.

Editorial

New Straits Times expressed its skepticism over the Immigration Department’s plan to use the biometrics to flush illegal migrants out as previous breakthrough technological innovations like a paperless society failed to materialise.

Utusan Malaysia hopes that economic stimulus package would be put to good use - primarily people oriented projects.

Berita Harian commented that the stimulus package will help ensure the economy does not dip further.

Malaysia Nanban highlighted the use of biometrics to pick-up illegals.

Makkal Osai urged all parties not to politicise the issue of a cremation ground in Bandar Baru Sentul.
