I refer to the Malaysikini report BN mulls new multi-racial group .

Amid calls for all parties in the BN to dissolve so that one integrated party can emerge, we are hearing leaders of Umno, MCA and MIC trotting out the same old story about how people are not ready....

The truth is that these leaders do not know how to be leaders for all Malaysians. The professed attempt of the PM to be so has failed miserably when the tests came. Invariably he leaned towards his own race and religion.

The ability to be rational, just and balanced is suppressed. Just a kind word for the ‘others’ and a call to your own race to exercise restraint is sacrificed for the gallery. It is funny when you are the majority and holding all the important positions in the country to be always claiming that you are under threat.

It is the minority that needs their rights to be protected. This perverse kind of logic is racialism at its worse. And yet these same people rant at Zionist and American hegemonists.

I am deeply saddened as the imminent leader of our country seeks not for reconciliation with those who claimed that they have been marginalised but instead has opted for further marginalisation by branding them as hooligans and lacking in manners and civility.

What happens when your own kind goes on a rampage when some others are meeting peacefully to talk, seeking solutions for problems arising from living together in a multiracial and multi-religious country? Was there a squeak of kurang sopan and tak budi bahasa ?

A person capable of being a leader for all Malaysians would have thought for a while and as a preliminary measure ask them to come for a meeting to discuss their grievances.

It was obvious that the people who claimed to represent these people in the government had failed. Otherwise why all the aggravation? The fact that the IPF was formed was a sign that indeed the so-called ‘protectors’ of the Indians were only protecting some Indians.

Hindraf did not suddenly appear to demonstrate on the streets of KL. The community’s problems were always dismissed or scoffed at.

The small protests and demonstrations were branded as actions by ‘trouble-makers’. The refusal to look at and deal with the real problems facing the marginalised Indians then united a whole group of people to vote against the government. And still...

If Najib Abdul Razak cannot discard his old mindset then the only way he is going to deal with Hindraf is with a big stick.

Talk to them. Everyone in this country is under your care. Poor or rich, cultured or rude, black or yellow, Hindu or Buddhist, they are all your responsibility.

If today a black man in America is preparing to be the leader of all Americans, about 300 million of them today, are you Najib, a ‘Malay’ man ready to the leader for all Malaysians or just the Malays?
