I would just like to point out that thousands or hundreds of Malaysians have fought in Afghanistan in the 1980s to help the Afghans fight the Russians. The reason I'm saying this is just to highlight that it is not an unusual thing to have fought in the Afghanistan nor to have had a military training in Afghanistan or Pakistan with the aim of fighting alongside Muslim brothers, liberating Afghanistan.

I am sure many other Muslims like me knew some of this men. In fact, when I studied in the UK in the early 1990s, we Malaysians were invited to have military training in Pakistan or Afghanistan with the aim of fighting to free them, much like the Malaysian army sent to Bosnia to help free our Muslim brothers from the clutches of the Serbian terrorists.

Although it was tempting to die a martyr, a friend did go there for military training for one summer and then returned to Malaysia after graduation. Today, he is a qualified professional.

None of us has any militant tendencies whatsoever. Our aim was just to help free the Muslims in Afghanistan.
