ISA: Zaid shows the way
‘Let us fervently hope that the prime minister listens to Zaid's wise words and consigns the ISA to the dustbin of history.'
On Zaid Ibrahim writes open letter to PM
Sam: To read Zaid Ibrahim's letter leaves one quite breathless and in awe of the intelligence, common sense and humanity of this man. To try to add more to what he has said would be quite unnecessary - he has said it all.
But what I do feel compelled to express is the fact that here is a man who exemplifies the very best that Malaysia has to offer and his firm grasp on the affairs of man leads one to believe that all is not lost for this country.
We all pray that there are more like him waiting in the wings to turn things around and restore the supremacy of the judiciary and the rule of law.
Let us also fervently hope that the Prime Minister listens to Zaid's wise words and consigns the ISA to the dustbin of history.
Siew Wah: That was a very moving letter from Zaid Ibrahim, a former minister in Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's cabinet to urge the prime minister to repeal the ISA once and for all.
The reasons stated in that moving letter are logical, fair and timely; yet will the prime minister listen, given the uncertainty surrounding his position and still in a ‘dream state'?
Last but not least, Abdullah Badawi is not tech-savvy and could have missed this appeal letter which was e-mailed to him.
James Kumar: Zaid was within not to contain a problem but to bring about reform and though he did not have the support, he continued in his noble task.He is a fine example of consistency and a ‘never give up' attitude.
He has qualified himself to be listed as a 'legitimate leaders of the nation'. We should learn from such leaders.
Mustafa Ahmad: I think it ill be an uphill task to fight to abolish the ISA if we do not adopt the appropriate strategy.
Before the ISA can be abolished, we must fight to get rid of the BN-Umno regime from the surface of this earth.
If this regime continues to exist it will not be possible to see the abolishment of ISA, a favourite and effective weapon against its enemies.
We must fight hard to replace this government with a clean, effective and competent team.
Then we will arrest all the BN-Umno leaders, members, their families, cronies, sidekicks and supporters past and present for corruption, murder, and other criminal acts for the past 50 years and dump them into prison.
Julie Teng: What a beautifully written, eloquent letter from Zaid Ibrahim to the prime minister.
Reading Zaid's letter brought tears to my eyes. He is a towering Malay, an extremely intelligent man that Malaysia needs to helm this nation to bring it back to its former glory and to keep pace globally.
Syed Hamid Albar, however, should be sacked immediately.
Tan Soo Huat: Zaid is man of principles, a rare species in the local political world. If all polictians behave the way Zaid carries himself, we are already reaching beyond Vision 2020.
Final countdown for justice
JD Lovrenciear: Zaid Ibrahim's letter to the PM to disband the ISA in the best interest of nation, King and rakyat and cannot be ignored any longer.
Indeed, this former de facto law minister is the one person who has what it takes to not only talk the walk but also walk the talk.
And if the government continues to dismiss the rational, passionate appeal as registered in Zaid's letter, then the people must rise.
The rakyat have a right and a moral responsibility to rise against all the evil that was bolted in place in the past.
They have a duty to nation, King, fellow rakyat and humanity as a whole to rise against any further delay in freeing this nation from the bondage of evil plotters.
To continue to holler that the rakyat must go through the proper channels is all bunkum when even Suhakam's recommendations are ignored to date.
To continue to preach that we need the ISA for the good of the nation and rakyat is also most deceiving when Zaid has so clearly expressed the reason and the emotions for a better nation.
Stop now! Mr PM you have to do it and do it now. Let your honourable action be in this joyous post-Ramadan days of celebration.
Remove the ISA if you truly are patriotic to our King and nation-building.
Otherwise the people will have to do it for the sole love and dignity of our King and the rakyat and in the noble and untainted name of Islam.
Sitha: So many unexpected incidents are happening in the country these days and we are not sure of what to anticipate in the future. But one thing that we know for sure is not many want you (the PM) to continue your journey under the same title.
Therefore, one thing that you can do before you leave is to release all of the ISA detainees.
At least, this will make the rakyat and the world to remember you for a good cause. The future will mention your name for this deed.
They, the detainees want to be with their families just as how we want to be with ours and as you with yours.
Please sir, just signal your men to release them and abolish the ISA.
Lim Keat Hoe: Ah! what an eloquent letter and so well said.
Will our PM prove that he is no lame-duck PM and implement the actions suggested by Zaid?
I will like to believe that beneath his ineffectiveness as the PM of our nation, he is still a decent man.
So, please do release RPK , the Hindraf 5 and all other non-terror detainees of the ISA.
But sadly, our PM no longer has real powers to implement these actions.
