Allow me to respond to the letters from MCA Delegate ('Ruckus not caused by Ong', Aug 6) and Concerned ('Leaders do not walk out', Aug 6) that followed my letter. As a member of MCA Youth, Segambut, I personally do not support any party, whether Yew Teong Look or Ong Tee Keat, in this matter. But I would like to highlight some errors the leaders have made and I stand with the constitution and MCA by-laws and procedures.

Firstly regarding the walkout. It was indeed a bad political move. As a result, Yew had to pay for his mistake.

However, it is important to understand that the walkout was triggered because the method of voting was in question and the delegates were escorted out by the police. With the machine gun in hand delegates had no choice but to obey. That was the primary reason why many delegates insisted on a secret ballot and the delegates were actually voting to obtain the permission to have a secret ballot. However, when the speaker was able to conclude the number of votes before counting was completed, that caused a total loss of faith in the procedures carried out by the ones managing the AGM.

Secondly, the primary reason why the 'fracas' came about was when Ong decided not to follow party procedures in calling for an EGM. The procedures were put in place to make sure all delegates had sufficient time to prepare to attend the EGM. I was one such delegate who had to be overseas during the EGM and thus was not able to attend. When a chairperson can ignore the procedures and rules, what more can you expect from his followers within the MCA youth? Thus violence begets violence and Ong's ignorance of the procedures caused Yew's people to decide to ignore the other rules in the party AGM as well.

Thirdly, regarding the numbers polled. Because of the manner in which the speaker had previously counted votes (whereby the total can be concluded before counting was completed) I would like to question the accuracy of these reports. Were they verified by a neutral party?

Fourthly, Ong indeed has control of 600-750 out of the 1,500 delegates. However, it is in extremely bad form to sack the representatives of the remaining delegates (300-400). Is it his policy to sack all who oppose him? If he keeps doing that eventually he will be the only remaining delegate in the MCA Youth and then he will have 100 percent support. Not only that, he sacked the man who was merely trying to follow party procedures.

Finally, I would like to appeal to all MCA Youth members to adhere to the procedures. Lest we reap what we sow as what happened under Ong Tee Keat's leadership. When he ignored the party procedures, he became a bully and dictator instead of a leader. Party procedures and the constitution are the highest authority, not Ong or the delegates or the central committee.
