I refer to Jimmy Wong's letter titled "SIA is being competitive" (July 28) and I agree with his view that Ling is distorting the view when it comes to airline competition. I have flown widely on MAS and SIA and on the whole, on both the airlines the economy class service is good (though some may disagree).

And we know now that it is cheaper (as in Jimmy's experience) to fly SIA to some international locations such as Manila and Melbourne from Malaysia. However, Ling does not point out that for Singaporeans and people residing in Singapore, it is cheaper to fly MAS from Changi to locations such as Melbourne as compared to SIA, and the difference in fare is much greater.

I have a feeling that Ling knows this for a fact, but deliberately wants to demonise another airline. (SIA being successful would be the obvious choice) to justify for the price increase in air fares.
