I disagree with Hassan, who wrote 'The real issues in Islamic state' (July 23). According to him, the implementation of Hudud law is not necessarily the most important aspect of Islam.

However, the writer failed to mention what is undeniably the most important aspect of Islam, which is that all Muslims in this world must unite and ensure that all Muslims are free from poverty, war and religious persecution. This means that heeding the call for jihad is by far the most important aspect of Islam and not Hudud as some may think.

What should concern Muslims is the malnutrition and starvation inflicted upon the peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the oppression of Muslims in Israel, Macedonia and Chechnya.

Liberating Muslims from death, whether due to lack of food or lack of weaponry, should be the rallying call of Muslims in Malaysia and not trivial matters such as Hudud or freedom of speech or women's rights etc.
