In response to the letter from Muslim Student ('A time to right the wrong', July 18), while some may not appreciate the industrialisation of Malaysia during the era of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, many others do. Many of those who didn't have the opportunity to further their studies (being non-bumiputeras) have benefitted a lot from it as they have acquired knowledge as well as skills that can help them make Malaysia a better place to live in.

I agree that investors are out to make a fast buck but with industrialisation over the years, does the writer realise how many Malaysians are operating their business using the skills they learnt from their working days in the factories? The transfer of technology has worked well for us.

And while semiconductors can't feed us, knowledge can.

With regard to the judiciary system please elaborate on what's wrong with it. Just because there are some popular people being put behind bars and a group of irresponsible Malaysians going around and making a fuss about it, that doesn't mean everyone has to believe that the judiciary is in a bad shape. In your eyes, there could be something wrong, but to me and many Malaysians it's fine and that's why Mahathir is still our prime minister. Malaysians did not get rid of him in 1999 during the general elections.

One point that I do agree with the writer is on making things right, so I urge Dr Mahathir to make things right by reducing all bumiputera benefits and working towards a Bangsa Malaysia.

I can then tell the prime minister he need not cry and beg and plead as the majority of us Malays will never change from being an ungrateful lot.

So Mahathir's 20-year tenure is worth celebrating and some people may mourn if they want to; nobody will stop them.
