High tension wires no danger to school

The high tension wires at the new site proposed for SJK (C) Damansara in Tropicana do not pose a safety problem, said Deputy Education Minister Hon Choon Kim today.
He added that the land for the school was approved by the town planner.
"Since the town planner has allocated for the building of a school on that site, then we build a school there. I have no authority to say (what's the exact safe distance)," Hon said when asked again about the safety zone from the high tension wires.
A new finding brought to malaysiakini's attention on Saturday is that the proposed plot in Tropicana only has 0.6 acre of "usable" land. The rest, spreading almost five acres, comprise a big ravine and safety barriers from a reservoir, high tension wires and roads.
Today, Hon announced that the area allocated is 5.3 acres, and the school will comprise 36 classrooms with three blocks of four-storey buildings, one three-storey block, a playing field, two badminton courts, a meeting room, a resource room, a dental room and other facilities.
The project is estimated to cost RM10 million.
Hon also said that the project will be finished by the end of November and the school will open next year.

Asked why was there a hurry to move the school from the old site in Damansara to Tropicana, he said the question should be directed to the board of governors.
On a report which said that Puay Chai (2)'s campus in Bandar Utama originally belongs to SJK Damansara, he said it is not true as Puay Chai had made the application before the SJK Damansara, hence the site allocated for a national school in Bandar Utama was given to Puay Chai.
He said that the authorities of the Puay Chai and Damansara schools had met and come to a resolution that they will share the campus in Bandar Utama while waiting for the new campus of SJK Damansara to be built.
Asked why the 35 new primary schools in the Petaling district are all national schools, he said that as far as he knows, the area has two new Chinese primary schools.
